Ok...you asked for it!
Jun 23 2008, 9:35 AM EDT Here's a new thread! Ok everybody...the beginning of Summer has been pretty weak for BrickiWiki. I've been sliping into a temperature induced dark-age and don't know what to do to stop it. So, to try and increase a little enthusiasm for this wiki, I'm going to ask all of you a question. What features would you like to see on BrickiWiki? For starters, I really want to develop a "Techniques" section where we can display and discuss some of our radical building techniques in an effort to improve the overall building skill of BrickiWiki members. So, give it up...what LEGO related feature would you like to see on your favorite wiki? 3 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jun 23 2008, 1:32 PM EDT I like the idea of having a techniques section. That would help me out a lot. Maybe we could have a "featured" BrickiWiki user page. That might make people look around a little more when they first come in. Do you find this valuable? |

Jun 23 2008, 2:59 PM EDT I think we should have some sort of "Disscussion" page, that would have us tlking about any new themes, or the Monthly Challenges, etc. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Ok...you asked for it!
Jun 23 2008, 5:24 PM EDT Good ideas. Brandon..as for the discussion pages, I encourage all of you to create new pages for any new theme that hits the stores. Then, we could have all sorts of discussions right on that page. The increased activity would cause viewers to visit these theme pages...and as people browse around more, they'll realize that we've got a lot to offer. We can have discussions about monthly challenges right on the challenge page. If you've been apprehensive to do so, please feel free. As for the "featured" user thing...I've wanted to do something like that for a while. I was thinking of having a profile of the month page...or link from the home page. However, the profiles that were picked woul have to be pretty awesome. Keep the ideas coming. I'm interested to hear from our other members too. Do you find this valuable? |

Jun 23 2008, 7:04 PM EDT How about a collaborative building project -- possibly something modular like the Moonbase project? I build 3 or 4 Moonbase modules back when that was going on, even though I never actually had the opportunity to connect them to any other modules or layouts. But I still liked the structure and collaborative spirit of the thing. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Ok...you asked for it!
Jun 28 2008, 3:59 PM EDT I also like the idea of a collaborative building project - perhaps something like a city skyline, and if we could get everyone to take a photo of their buildings against a white background, then it would be easy to photoshop them all into the same scene! Also there is a page for building techniques in the constructopedia which seems a little empty, so if anyone has some good ideas please add them. I'll try and make some more instructions for simple models as well (maybe this could become a monthly challenge some time?). Anyway, I'm starting off my summer building spree with a SNOT helicopter, which I hope to post when done... Do you find this valuable? |

Jun 28 2008, 4:22 PM EDT I also like the collaborative idea. We can build something like the 50th Aniiversary set, http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=10184&LangId=2057&ShipTo=US How their are different buildings to create one city. We can build something like that, but any theme is probably fine. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Ok...you asked for it!
Jul 9 2008, 11:54 PM EDT mmmm...yes, I have a few techniques I wouldn't mind sharing, a couple of my regular tricks. And I love the idea of discussions, particularly concerning new themes...and I even think that any of us who buy a new set should perhaps write a review of it. Anybody remember the Y-Wing vs Tie Fighter set? I blew sixty bucks on it, and it was worth it for Darth Vader's Tie, but I was sorely disappointed by the Y-Wing (although I got some nice pieces off it and hawked the red R2 unit for fifteen bucks on eBay). Oh, and I apologize extensively for my absence over the past month and a half. I'm suffering from a bit of the ol' Builder's Block. I got a couple older models I still need to photograph, though. Maybe I can get them up sometime in the near future. Oh and I really really really want to build a landing ship for some of my space troops. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Ok...you asked for it!
Jul 22 2008, 9:40 AM EDT GRRRRR...hate it when that happens...had a long post and then I hit the wrong keys...and it all went away without any hope of retrieving it. Ok...here goes...reply Mark II. I'm sorry for not responding to or acting on any of these ideas. Not being in the Legoratory every day seems to hurt my activity on this site directly. However, all these ideas are fantastic and all of them can happen. Collaborative idea: I like this idea, but we have to find a theme in which we all can build. Most current and active members are spacers...but not all. In addition, I think moon bases are a little too technical (many restrictions and size-standards. ...which reminds me...there are messages coming to each of several of you with assignments (if you don't mind). I'll build "to dos" to go along with the assignments... I would like to come up with something that all of us could add to...with possible photography guidelines so that all the pictures are similar...and easy to "photoshop" together. If we could start such a project a little later in the year, I'd be much obliged. As I've mentioned before, my Legoratory is sitting at 98° at 8am in the morning...and my crappy little AC window unit just doesn't do the job. I'll probably be back in the Legoratory at the end of September...so expect a flurry of MOCs. Just remember guys and gals...our biggest collaborative project is this Wiki...we're already working together to make something awesome. Techniques section: I have sooooo many things I could add to this section...but as I found with attempting an instruction photo-shoot...it's pretty tough to do well. I've still got nearly 100 pics that I haven’t edited and posted for my Aphid instructions. But, it's a worthy idea. Please add to this as much as you can. I would love to see our community skill-level grow too. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Aug 4 2008, 11:50 AM EDT Hey I'm boinicleX (pronuced bionicleX) and even though I havent joined yet I have one idea. Obvoisly u could guess I would suggest adding Bionicles here since it's bascially my name. U can make really cool guys by buying like two normal sets and then cobining them I've made some and I think more peple would see them here then on the real bionicle website Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 13 2008, 11:08 PM EDT Hey JL, I also thought of the idea of having sorta a "spin-off" website, more focused on Bionicle. Then, we can add some sorta link on the homepage, and on the "LEGO Products->Lego Bionicle" page can sorta introduce it. Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 14 2008, 4:36 PM EDT I think it would be better to just expand here on Brcikiwiki. It could definitely get more bionicle fans to come, as long as we publicize the bionicle factor. You know, more links and bigger print. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Ok...you asked for it!
Monday, 9:39 AM EDT "Hey JL, I also thought of the idea of having sorta a "spin-off" website, more focused on Bionicle."This is not a bad idea...however, let's try to accomodate them here first...I've always wanted to get a little more Bionicle-ness added to this site. But here's why it might be necessary to "spin-off" a site in the future. If you guys (bionicle fans) grow in number...like 10 - 15 members, you might find a sister site beneficial. My main concern is you guys being drowned out by all the "regular" LEGO stuff...like the Monthly Challenges. They are typically bionicle-excluding by nature. It's not easy to construct a "Historical Monument" in Bionicle. However, we COULD just have two Monthly Challenges...one for LEGO and one for Bionicle. Get the fans over here and we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Do you find this valuable? |
