Caring for LEGOs

I believe these were created by Legootter and Reaper Z respectively. ---[I (Reaper_Z) just added my thoughts]

Know Your Pieces

It is my opinion that knowing what pieces you have is key to MOC success. When you visualize a creation in your mind, it is paramount that you have ideas on how to achieve your vision. The best way to accomplish this task is to play, play, play.

One suggestion I have is an exercise I learned when I was about 10 years old. Set all of your LEGOs out before you in a nice big heap. Reach in with one hand and grab a random handful. Build something with only those LEGOs in your hand. Try to use every piece.

In addition, any time you get a new batch of LEGOs, be sure to play with the new batch by themselves before mixing them into "general population." You may have acquired several new pieces that you've never used. This will allow you to learn every piece. Before you know it, you'll even know generally how many of a given pice you have. After gaining this knowledge of you collection, you'll find yourself building MOCs in your mind...before you've even touched a brick.
